Militarism
Militarism is the glorification of the military. Countries were judged by the strength of their military, and the idea of "survival of the fittest" was in play when it came to military strength, meaning that the better army will be victorious. This included an arms buildup, meaning more weapons manufacturing, more soldiers, and more ships. An example of this is the Naval Race between Germany and Great Britain from 1906 to 1914, they were competing against each other to see who can build the most dreadnoughts. Great Britain won the race by twelve dreadnoughts.
1) It increased the amount of soldiers
2). There was more influence on military men
3). Used force to solve problems
4). More money was spent
Military Expenditure Before and at the start of WW1 (in millions for Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy, Britain, France, and Russia).
